A. The following is a direct quote from Wikipedia. So as much as I would love to claim this gem, I can't. Zamenhof suggested using Italian as a model for Esperanto pronunciation. The Esperanto alphabet is nearly phonemic and coincides closely to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).
